As we wrap up Ghost Boys, students will engage in literature circles to review for SBA. Students will read closely informational texts. Lastly, students will engage in English grammar.
Reflection:
As I pause and reflect, I am honored and humbled to have been invited to Superintendent Alberto Carvalho's ED conference because Norwood was at a remarkable event. My students and I had a wonderful time engaging with ED. I am proud to work at Norwood! Thank you!

The students will read a fascinating novel titled Ghost Boys. Ghost Boys is a book about current issues in society and schools. Students will participate in Literature Circles, Socratic Seminars, and Debates while reading Ghost Boys. Jewell Parker Rhodes wrote Ghost Boys intending to bring awareness of the current issues.

Students transferred their debate skills into their argumentative writing. The students created argumentative essays using the Modern Language Association format for the in-text citations and Work Cited Page. Furthermore, sixth-grade scholars followed the Jane Schaffer essay structure.

Room 10 has begun debating. Students are debating about real-world issues and expressing their opinions while citing evidence to support their claims and arguments.
The scholars will participate in debates to develop their argumentative voices and transfer the skills smoothly into argumentative essays.
Ultimately, the students will experience parliamentarian processes during the debate.

Vocabulary
Students can cite evidence to support the central ideas of their reading text. Students will experience college and career readiness by citing evidence using the MLA format. Students will understand the various styles of in-text citations.
Students will experience the Avid Focused Note-Taking with the Cornell Note format.

I am excited for our first "Book Tasting" in sixth grade! We will read Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes. The novel's genre is historical fiction. 10-year-old Deja, the protagonist, is unaware of what truly happened on 9/11. Deja is homeless; she lives in a shelter with her parents and two siblings. She is concerned about starting the fifth grade at a new school in Brooklyn, New York. Deja has trouble relating to her peers; however, she makes two friends and begins to care about them. Unexpectedly, Deja finds out what truly happened on 9/11. She also learns that her father survived the World Trade Center attack.
