Renaissance Learning in Schoology is the home of Accelerated Reader
The Canoga Park High School library will be using the Accelerated Reader program. Many books in the library have been labeled with Accelerated Reader information on the spine identifying the reading level, points, title, author, quiz number, interest level, and reading level. Accelerated Reader challenges students to read at higher levels while ensuring that they read a variety of books at their present level. The Library book catalog “Destiny” lists all the information on the book as well as the word count. Teachers and students can search the catalog for AR books and limit it to their reading level.
The Canoga Park High School also supports Sustained Silent Reading or Free Voluntary Reading.
The purpose of Accelerated Reader is to develop powerful reading skills.
A student’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) represents the student's actual level of reading.
Book level indicates the difficulty of the text, not the depth of the content.
Interest level tells you for which grade levels a book’s themes and ideas are appropriate.
Points are given to a book based on its length. Student points are earned by how much reading a student has completed.
Comprehension is the most important feature of the Accelerated Reader program.
Teachers and Staff will:
Bring a list of your class with their Student ID number.
Administer the STAR test to see what level each student should begin.
