Reading Buddies Spring Semester
Join us for our first annual Arroyo Seco Poetry Slam on Friday, April 28th during recess!
Students are invited to our first annual Arroyo Seco Poetry Slam on Friday, April 28th during recess in the library. During this event, students may read an original work of poetry or their favorite poem by another poet. There is no need to memorize the poem, but students should be ready to stand in front of an audience and recite the poem of their choosing. Participation in this event is voluntary, but all participating poets will be entered into a raffle with a chance to win some awesome prizes!

It's time to get ready for Summer reading! This year's theme for Los Angeles Public Library's Summer reading program is "Express Yourself." Students are encouraged to use their voice in their own creative way this summer!
How to Play
Register online (https://www.lapl.org/summer) or in person. Collect your participation prize, badge book, and FREE book at any library location.
Earn badges for reading and completing fun, learning-based activities.
Read for one hour = 1 badge
Complete an activity = 1 badge
Earn 15 badges and be entered into branch and grand prize drawings! Prizes include Amazon gift cards, an iPad, a skateboard deck with original art by graffiti artist Man One, memberships to LA Zoo, and more!
The reading program officially starts this Monday, June 6th, but you can register online now. Go Cougars. 🐾
Y'All West Book Festival Field Trip
On Saturday, April 30, 2022, a group of 4th through 8th graders had the opportunity to attend the Y'All West Book Festival. There were over 60 authors and presenters including New York Times Bestsellers along with local and acclaimed young adult and middle grade writers, plus notable TV, film, video game, and comic creators.

Tuesday: Read a book about an influential athlete and wear something to represent your favorite sport or sports team.
Wednesday: Read a book about a famous American and dress like them.
Thursday: Read a book that makes you smile and wear a silly outfit.
Friday: Books brighten our lives! Wear bright or neon colors.
