Proficiency Grading
Academic grades will reflect progress towards mastery of the standards (the learning targets). It is not an average of all grades, nor is it students’ accumulating points. This is very different (and better!) than traditional grading practices. Grades entered in Schoology may monitor progress towards the standards, but not have weight in their grade. To monitor student progress, all students must turn in assignments on time in order for it to not affect their work habits grade. Reassessments of learning targets will not be allowed unless all progress monitoring assignments are completed to satisfaction.
If a student wishes to improve their grade on the most recently graded assessment, students will be able to complete an academic reflection form and schedule a conference with Mrs. Strickland. Students need to have completed all practice assignments. During this conference, Mrs. Strickland will work with the student to develop a new assessment that will allow your child to demonstrate mastery of the standards. Each student that completes an academic reflection and conference will be given two weeks from the conference date to complete the new assessment. Because we will be giving this opportunity to students, there will be no late makeup assignments or extra-credit assignments. Please encourage your child to schedule these meetings.
Excellent Student Behavior
Our school expectations are that students are always safe, responsible, and respectful. Within the classroom, students will learn to be prompt, productive, polite, and prepared. We have discussed what that looks like in our classroom so that students are industrious learners. Consequences will be verbal reminders, parent notifications via email or phone call, or referrals to the administrative team.
Plagiarism/Cheating Policy
Using the work of other people (including AI, friends, family members, and tutors) to pass as your own (without proper citation) is not allowed. Student will receive a zero on that assessment/assignment and will not be allowed to make it up. Student will also receive U's for Work Habits and Cooperation on the final report card.
