Honors Social Studies Course Description
In accordance to the Common Core State Standards and California Content Standards, 6th grade students will study geography and its influence as civilizations were established. Students will enhance their close reading skills as they learn to read and write like historians who have analyzed by contextualizing, sourcing, and corroborating primary and secondary source evidence to discover what happened in the past.

Mastery Grading Learning Targets for 6th grade Social Studies:
(6.1) Students describe what is known through archaeological studies of the early physical and cultural development of humankind from the Paleolithic era to the agricultural revolution.
(6.2) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush.
(6.3) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the Ancient Hebrews.
(6.4) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of Ancient Greece.
(6.5) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilizations of India.
(6.6) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of China.
(6.7) Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of Rome.
Curriculum: We will be using McGraw Hill's Impact curriculum. Students picked up a textbook, but the online link to do the Impact curriculum is also in Schoology.
