This semester was a great launchpad for my advocacy as an EJ changemaker. Although I started my journey of action for sustainability early in high school I didn't have the wide knowledge of EJ issues that I have now. My action now can be more intentional because I've put in the work to understand how to effectively make change. My work with my teacher Angela Yeager and the semester opened so many opportunities for me. This is just the start of my journey!
Sophomore year I started the club LEAF (Laurel's Environmental Action for the Future). I launched composting in our cafeteria along with education initiatives to inform the community. I would like to continue with my club in partnership with ACE. Having ACE involved will allow us to access the greater community and it will ensure that the club continues once I graduate.
I began working with Sustainable and Just Future the summer before my Junior year. I got involved because of my passion for effective environmental education. I started working with the marketing team and I have since moved to working on curriculum for the SJF college courses. I'm so excited for the future of SJF and I will continue to work with them!
