How are these certifications different from the exams I have taken in the past?
The Google for Education Certified Educator levels are certifications that Google announced in July of 2015. They are for teachers who want to demonstrate proficiency in integrating Google for Education tools in their instructional practice. With these certifications came new training courses and exams that focus on the practical application of the tools for teaching and learning.
Does Level 1 certification need to be earned before the Level 2 certification?
Yes, through the Google for Education Certification Pathway, Level 1 Certified Educator must be earned before moving on to Level 2.
What are the benefits of becoming a Google Certified Educator?
An electronic badge for each level to display on your email signature, website, blog, etc.
Recognition as a proficient user of Google for Education tools.
Opportunities to mentor other Laurel educators and facilitate Laurel Google workshops.
What are the responsibilities of a Google Certified Educator in Laurel?
As a Google Certified Educator, you will be called upon to mentor other Laurel educators interested in becoming certified. You will also have opportunities to facilitate Google professional development sessions.
What is the time commitment involved with becoming a Google for Education Certified Educator?
Each unit is estimated to take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Because it is primarily self-paced, you may find that depending on your prior experience with the Google tools you are able to complete some units quicker than the estimated time. Other units may take you longer than expected.
Level 1 has 13 units.
Level 2 has 10 units.
Is there a cost involved in becoming a Google for Education Certified Educator?
Laurel will pay for your first attempt of the Level 1 and Level 2 exams. You will need to pay for the exam when you register and then send your receipt to along with reimbursement for via email (jconrad@laurel.k12.pa.us) for reimbursement. If you have to take an exam more than once to pass, you will be responsible for the fee.
Level 1 exam fee: $10 per attempt
Level 2 exam fee: $25 per attempt
Can I retake an exam if I don't pass?
If you don't pass the exam with your first attempt, you can take it again after 3 days.
If you don't pass a second time, you must wait 7 days before you can take it a third time.
If you don't pass the third time, you must wait 14 days before taking it again. Payment is required each time you take an exam.
Is this a lifetime certification?
Each certificate that you earn (level 1 & level 2) is valid for 3 years
