This course is for learners who wish to acquire knowledge and technical skills through vocational contexts by studying knowledge, skills and processes related to investigating, exploring and creating art and design work. This course will broaden the learners experience and understanding of not only the practical elements of art and design but the conceptual and contextual elements of art and design practice.
Component 1: Creative Practice in Art and Design 72 GLH, Internal Assessment

Artist Research
Experimenting with art and design practice (formal elements, design principles, composition, etc)
Experimentation of materials, techniques and processes
Exploring the work of others practically
Generating Ideas for practical work
Understanding audience and client needs

Learners who achieve qualification (Level 2) might consider progression to a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as the BTEC Extended Certificate in Art and Design which prepares learners to enter employment and or apprenticeships, or to move on to higher education by studying a degree in the art and design areas.
