Oaks Primary Academy Newsletter

Issue 8: Date 4/3/2022

We finish another fantastic week at Oaks Primary Academy, in which fun, amazing learning and laughter have been ever present. Friday marked our celebrations of World Book Day which brought many of our favourite book characters to life. It was fantastic for me to see so many enthused young learners sharing their passion for stories. I was also extremely proud to see our staff at Oaks go the extra mile to bring smiles to faces and share their love of reading by dressing up as well-known characters. A great deal of joy was spread on Friday.

Not only was World Book Day a success, our inagural Coffee Catch Up session was successful too. On Wednesday we invited parents and carers in to Oaks to engage in an informal educational session all about supporting reading at home. The session gave parents and carers the opportunity to learn some invaluable techniques to use at home from Miss Nelson. In additon, the latest educational research in reading and phonics was shared and also the session provided an opportunity to ask any questions about how reading works in school whilst sharing thoughts and views on how we can improve further. Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see even more familiar faces in our future sessions.

To begin the school day, please can parents be vigilant of how and where cars are parked, as it is our duty to ensure we do not park on double yellow lines, nor obstruct public walkways. Furthermore, we are part of a fantastic community and I want to ensure that the people of the surrounding area commend us and our children on our respectful and caring ways. Let's continue to lead by example for the amazing children of Oaks Primary Academy!

As always, thank you for your support and have a restful and safe weekend.

Mr Moore

PE

As always, all our pupils have arrived back at school fully rested, enthusiastic and eager for their PE lessons. Year 4 and 5 have had their first 2 swimming lessons since before covid and have taken to it like ducks to water! KS2 have been thoroughly enjoying creating and learning different dance routines and KS1 are continuing to improve and challenge themselves with creating sequences using different movements, and we are beginning to introduce pieces of apparatus.

Our netball team had another outstanding result against Snodland Primary School in very challenging conditions but with determination and resilience they won 4-0.

Our Year 5 football team competed in a tournament with schools from Maidstone and the surrounding areas and had the opportunity of playing on astro turf. They didn't win but with each game there was significant improvement and they continued to play with positivity and demonstrated great sportsmanship.
