Once you have been accepted, you and your child will be invited to our Welcome Event, where you’ll meet key staff, hear from current students, and learn more about life at our academy.

We have a structured transition programme, including:

• Primary school visits by our senior staff

• At least two taster event in July to experience lessons and meet new classmates

• Extra transition support for students with special educational needs.

During your taster events, students will:

• Tour the academy and become familiar with their new environment

• Experience engaging lessons

• Set up biometrics for the catering system

• Make new friends and meet current students.

We understand that moving to a new school can be daunting, so we:

• Arrange team-building activities during transition days

• Have a dedicated advisory tutor for each student

• Encourage students to join clubs and extracurricular activities to meet new people.

The school day begins at 8.25am and finishes at 3.00pm, with extra-curricular activities running after school.

No, this is completely free; every child in the academy will be loaned a Chromebook. They are insured against theft and accidental damage. All we ask is that they are charged every night and that the students bring them to school every day.

Our transition programme includes:

• Meet-and-greet sessions with staff before September

• Dedicated pastoral care team to support emotional well-being

• A staggered start in September, so Year 7s begin before older students

We aim to place students in classes where they feel comfortable while also helping them to meet new people and make new friends.

At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie we pride ourselves on developing the whole child and the intent of our Co-Curricular offer is to provide a wealth of opportunities for students to experience new interests, hobbies, and skills beyond lessons.

We provide extra support for students with SEND, including:

• Additional taster day for SEND students

• Support from our SEND team and Learning Support Assistants

• Individual transition plans where needed.

Year 7 students start a day earlier than other year groups to help them settle in. They will meet their advisor and receive their timetable and will take part in orientation activities.

Students will need a school bag, pencil case with stationery, scientific calculator, and PE kit. A full list will be provided before the start of term.

We use a cashless catering system with biometric fingerprint recognition. Students will set this up during their taster days in July.  Parents can top up their child’s account online and the students can top up their account via a cash machine in the canteen.
