The Ancient World:

This year, we will learn about the ancient world. Our textbook covers over 3 million years of history! As we learn about the cultures and civilizations of the past, we will:

• Read using the online textbook and primary sources from the ancient world

• Write narratives and expository paragraphs and essays utilizing historical details and text evidence

• Create group and individual presentations

• Research artifacts and online research sources

• Create physical and digital models

• Act out ancient events and myths

• Create art inspired by ancient sources

Trimester 1:

• Early Man: Hominids, Early Human Settlements

• Mesopotamia: The Fertile Crescent

• Egypt: Social Structure, Daily Life, The Pharaohs, Myths, Religion, and Tombs

Trimester 2:

• Canaan: History of Judaism

• India: History of Hinduism/Buddhism, Gupta Empire

• China: History of Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism, and the first Dynasties (Shang, Zhou, Qin, and Han), The Silk Road

Trimester 3:

• Greece: Development of Greek city-states, Persian Wars, Delian League, Peloponnesian Wars, Alexander the Great

• Rome: Founding of Rome, Roman Republic, Early Empire, Flavian Emperors, History of Christianity
