Instruction E 6163.4 (a) STUDENT USE OF TECHNOLOGY
ACCEPTABLE USE AGREEMENT
FOR COMPUTERS AND ON-LINE RESOURCES
***Our family has read and discussed the Los Altos School District's Acceptable Use Agreement for Computers and On-line Resources. We understand and will abide by the provisions and conditions of this agreement. We understand that any violations of the above provisions may result in disciplinary action and/or the revocation of our child's technology access privileges.
AGREEMENT:
All students in grades 1-8 and their parents are expected to review, understand, and sign the following policy each year as a condition of using the technology at their schools.
The computers, iPads, Chromebooks and other digital resources in Los Altos School District are for educational use by all students. This acceptable use agreement is an extension of the Los Altos School District behavior standards, building a school culture that displays respect for learning, people, and property. In fact, one way to determine if your use of the computers is acceptable is to ask yourself whether your behavior in the electronic world would be acceptable if you acted in a similar fashion in the real world. The school staff will help guide you in the proper use of the computer, but you are responsible for your own actions.
The use of the computers is a privilege made available to you. You may use the computers as long as you use them in a responsible manner. Minor violations of this agreement may result in the short-term suspension of your computer privileges. Repeated or major violations of this agreement will be handled in the same way as violations of the school behavior standards. Your school computer files are not private and may be monitored and accessed at any time by a teacher or system administrator.
As a student you will agree to the following:
- I will use the computer for school approved activities only. This includes assignments given by my teacher and using the computer as a reference tool.
- I will access the Internet only for classroom related projects and activities. The Internet is only to be accessed with the permission and supervision of a faculty member.
- I will only do computer work that I would be willing to share with a teacher or parent. This includes information that I create and information that I may find while online with the permission and supervision of a faculty member.
- I will not use email, instant messaging or real-time chat options during school hours unless it is part of a school project and with the knowledge of a school faculty member.
- I will respect the school computer equipment and leave it in the same condition as I found it. This includes the hardware, software and files belonging to others.
- I will not load and/or use additional software on District computers without permission from a faculty member.
- I will not attach devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, eReaders, iPods or flash drives to any computer or network without permission.
- I will respect the property and privacy of others, including fellow students and school staff. I
- will not look at, copy or change another person's files without permission.
- I will respect copyright laws, not copy materials without permission and will give credit for the resources I find online.
- I will only use my own login and password that have been assigned to me. I will not share my password with anyone other than my parents and faculty members.
- I will respect other people when communicating electronically. I will not send a message to someone or about someone that I would not be willing to share in person. Messages that contain rude, hateful, harmful, or foul language will not be tolerated.
- I will protect my privacy and the privacy of others. I will never share personal information, phone numbers, addresses, or credit card numbers in any communications.
- I will always report inappropriate computer use to a faculty member.
