Course Description: This course is a study of Euclidean geometry. Topics discussed include dimensional objects (lines, planes, polygons, circles, and polyhedrons), angular measurement, congruency, similarity, deductive and inductive reasoning, formal proofs, relational computations (perimeter, area, and volume), right triangle trigonometry, and practical applications. Algebraic concepts and techniques are integrated and emphasized throughout the course to aid in the understanding of geometric concepts and applications, and to reinforce proficiency in algebraic skills. This course is aligned to the NM Standards and Benchmarks and the 2010 Common Core State Standards for Geometry.
Course Materials (required):
- A three ring binder with section dividers and paper or composition book.
- Pencil with eraser. Compass and Protractor.
- One headset or ear bud to listen to online math demonstrations.
- A scientific calculator. I suggest getting a TI-83/84 Plus Calculator (The school’s equipment is entirely Texas Instruments). TI-89 and TI-92 calculators are not allowed. You cannot use a cell phone as a calculator.
- The book repository has calculators that can be checked out. Check out sheets are available in class.
- Geometry Textbook: Geometry (Common Core): Prentice Hall School Division (2012).
Web access:
- Access your Internet browser. Then go to the LAPS Clever Login site, log in with Google, and then click the Pearson EasyBridge icon. Select Pearson eText for Schools and then your textbook.
What is my teacher’s policy about turning in Geometry work, including late and missing work?
- Classwork is due in class on the day that it is assigned. Students who need additional time can get their classwork stamped during Academic Time (AT) before associated chapter test. Copies of class work are kept in folders labeled by chapter # in a large drawer titled Geometry by the class room door.
- Practice work [Homework (HW)] is DUE the next class period. Chapter review and test fix homework are due on assigned dates (listed in Google Classroom) Late work is not accepted unless:
Student was absent (excused); then it is due an equal # of class days that student was absent (after student returns).
Work turned in at Saturday School before the test associated with work shown earns 50% of possible points.
- Blank copies of teacher notes are also kept in this drawer; these notes are available for students with requirements to discreetly pick up on their way into class.
Geometry Resources (Work in Progress; WIP):
NOTE: Hard copies of HW Calendar are printed in bright orange and distributed/available in class.
