What is my teacher’s policy about turning in Algebra 2 / Trigonometry work, including late and missing work?
Student was absent (excused); then it is due the class day after student returns.
Work is turned in at Saturday School before the test associated with work shown earns 50% of possible points.
NOTE: Hard copies printed in bright orange are distributed/available in class.
Course Description and Considerations: ALGEBRA 2: This course is an advanced extension of Algebra 1 and Geometry. Topics include: relations, functions, equations and inequalities, quadratics, polynomials, algebraic expressions, systems of equations, polynomial functions, logarithmic and exponentials functions, basic statistics and probability and a review of trigonometry.
TRIGONOMETRY: Topics include trig functions, acute angles and right triangles, radian measure and circular functions, graphs of the circular functions, trig identities, inverse circular functions, and trig equations.
Students earn 1.5 credits/ school year. They must maintain a B average (83%) or they will be moved to a regular paced Algebra 2 class.
This course meets and exceeds the New Mexico State Standards as well as the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
Prerequisites for the course are grade of “A” in Algebra 1, grade of “A” or “B” in Geometry, a score of 23/30 on the placement test, and recommendation of the previous math teacher.
Grades are calculated as a weighted-percentage of the total of possible points earned from each of the following categories:
Extra Credit possibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: (1) Class notes in a clearly labeled and put in order, collected during, and only during tests, can earn up to 3 extra credit points per chapter if a majority (at least 85%) of warm ups and notes are completed. Each days notes MUST start at the top right side of a page with students name on front; notes MUST be clearly labeled with chapter #, section #, section name, and date. Turn in your notes on the day before test if you know that you are going to miss a test. (2) 10 coupons can be turned in for 2 extra credit points (test weighted) if each coupon has the students name and date earned on coupon.
How to earn coupons: Each student in a group will occasionally be given a coupon when everyone in the group is sitting in their seat working on their warm up when the bell rings or when everyone is the group has their homework completely done or attempted (effort shown). Coupons can also be awarded when students present solutions on board.
NOTE: When a student earns 10 coupons they can use them for extra credit or they can use them as follows: a 1 day delay of HW without losing points, a late pass, etc.
Students in need of extra help should contact the instructor as soon as possible1. Academic Time is scheduled (unless otherwise posted) from 2:40 to 3:10 pm and during lunch on non-Friday B days unless otherwise posted). There is an Academic Support Center (ASC) in room E108; it is open daily from 7:30 – 3:15. Saturday School is scheduled between 8 and 12 on designated Saturdays. If a student is not able to meet during this time, please make an appointment with the instructor. See Saturday School Web page at https://sites.google.com/laschools.net/suewilson/home
I will work very hard to help all students master the concepts of this course. Student success will depend on many factors including, but not limited to, previous math knowledge, personal motivation, and support at home/school. Working together, we can help your child have the best possible learning experience.
