• While homework is NOT required in first grade, I do expect that students will take time each day to read. Please help your child make it a habit (like brushing teeth!) to read EVERY DAY! They can read to you, you can read to them, and you can read with each other! Just as importantly, let your child see you read, whether it's for work, for pleasure, or when you're learning how to do something. You are your child's most important and influential teacher and role model. They will learn from you that reading and knowledge are power. The kids can borrow books from class to bring home and return.
• Periodically I'll send home math packets of the kinds of work we're doing in class. This is not required and doesn't need to be returned, but it will give you a good idea of what we're learning and how your child is doing with those concepts. I will sometimes send home ideas for math activities you can do with your child to help support them in their academic growth.
