5th Grade
Summer Reading & Writing
This summer, each fifth grade student is expected to read or listen to one chapter book-- free choice reads that is at least 200 pages long.
Students will complete two assignments which are attached below -- book review and silly photo writing prompt.
Students are responsible for borrowing or purchasing their own novels
When choosing your free-choice novel, consider the level of challenge. Every book is given a lexile score. The higher the lexile level, the more challenging the book. For more information on lexile levels and to read samples of different lexile scores, click here. We want you to enjoy your summer reading, not feel like it's a chore!
If you have an iReady account, work on MyPath reading lessons based on your end of 4th grade reading diagnostics.
Free Choice Reads
STUDENT CHOICE! Your second book is selected by you! You are free to select from our list or find another recommended book. Be ready to work on your book review assignment along with the silly photo writing prompt, which will both be due first day of school!

School Year Reads
These are some of the books that we will be reading during the school year for 5th grade.
For information on modified assignments, please contact myra.salinas@larchmontcharter.org. Audiobooks from Amazon or Audible are acceptable alternatives for students who would prefer to listen rather than read.
