5th and 6th Grade Bands
Rolland-Warner is the home of our 5th and 6th Grade Bands. Students join band in 5th grade, with an opportunity to join in 6th grade if they missed signing up for 5th grade. Students learn to play a band instrument and develop foundational music skills through daily instruction and performance opportunities.
Getting An Instrument
Need an instrument for your child? We pair with Port Huron Music Center for their wonderful Instrument Rental Program.
How Instrument Selection Works
We provide an instrument fitting day to all 4th Grade students before they build their schedule for the following school year at Rolland-Warner. Students get the opportunity to work with a Port Huron Music Center professional to try out different instruments before making their selection. This ensures a good match between student and instrument.
*Students wishing to join 'late' in 6th Grade will work with Ms. Johnson to get fitted for an instrument at the beginning of the school year*
Things considered in fitting a child to an instrument are:
Physical characteristics (i.e. a student with very small fingers might struggle with clarinet)
Student interest
Initial success on an instrument at the fitting time
Instrumentation needs (a band with 50% percussionists wouldn’t sound balanced)
2025-2026 Concert Schedule: Students will perform 3 different concerts throughout the school year
Fall Concert- Wednesday November 19th, 2025
Midwinter Concert- Thursday February 26th, 2026
Spring Concert- Thursday May 28th, 2026
Lapeer High School Wind Ensemble students give 5th Grade Band students their "First Lesson" on how to put their instruments together, hold them, and make their first sound on Instrument Rental Night at Rolland-Warner!

Keep In Mind...
Band is a full year elective class. Once the deadline for switching out of an elective passes (Week 2 of school), students are locked into Band class for the rest of the school year. Please keep this in mind as you consider enrolling your student into Band at Rolland-Warner
