Newsletter

26th April 2024

Principal's Message:

Welcome to the newsletter for the second week of Term 5, as we are now in the full swing of the term.

You will have noticed that Langley Park now has a minibus! We have waited around two years for it to arrive so we are really excited to make full use of it. This is one way that we are going to significantly reduce costs of some trips and experiences. There is another minibus at one of our other local LAT academies that we are also able to use. This means that we will be able to provide complete transport for at least 30-32 children.

You will have also seen my recent communication about the car park. As I have already shared through our newsletters, I have become increasingly concerned about how it is being used and the general safety of it for our community. It is therefore necessary to put in the measures that were outlined in the letter. Thank you to everyone who has acknowledged the letter and taken heed. We are so lucky to have any form of parking for parents on the school site so it is important that we use it respectfully and safely.

I have also started to notice an influx of children wearing trainers to school. Clearly outlined in our well-established uniform policy, you will know that black school shoes only are permitted. This means that trainers of any colour, including black, are not permitted unless it is on a PE day. We will therefore start ringing home for school shoes to be brought to school if there is not a suitable reason as to why they are not being worn. This can be easily avoided by ensuring that school shoes are worn before leaving the house in the morning.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Miss S Brading

Office Reminders:

We have previously shared that our Breakfast and After School Clubs are running at maximum capacity almost every day at the moment. If you do rely on after school care, you may need to put in place alternative arrangements.

You are welcome to ring the academy office on any day that you may need childcare but wraparound spaces are currently so sought after that it is unlikely we will be able to accommodate any last minute requests.

If your child is absent, please ensure you cancel any session they are due to attend so that their place can be made available for another family. Sessions can be cancelled via the My Child at School app to ensure you are not charged for sessions that your child is not using and this needs to be done in advance of the session starting in order for your account to be refunded.

National Online Safety Guide

In the last 20 years, the volume of online traffic has increased exponentially. People's awareness of the accompanying risks, however, have not grown along with it. To illustrate the scale of the issue, consider this - a report by the Internet Crime Complaint Centre found that, in the US during 2020, there was a successful cyber-attack every second!

Criminals continue to find new and devious ways to attempt to hijack our online transactions and harvest our private information. To them, the smart devices that many of us use as standard at home are simply a convenient back door into our daily lives.. and our networks too. The below guide offers some advice on beefing up your household's cyber resilience as well as tips on a number of potential risks such as how to use a password manager, how to back up your data and how to check for breaches.

A reminder that all of our parent/carer community are invited to create an account with National Online Safety, which provides a wide range of resources such as the guides we include in our newsletters, courses and video resources. If you have not already done so, please create your account by visiting the link below.

You can also download the National Online Safety app on any device or smartphone by searching for it in the App Store/Google Play Store.

Contacting the class teachers:

If you have concerns that you would like to raise with the academy, please do so via the office email address which is contactus@langleyparkprimaryacademy.org.uk. Upon receipt, your email will be directed to the relevant member(s) of staff.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.

We are also aware that some parents continue to email staff directly. In the event that this happens, staff have been asked to forward your email to the aforementioned email address to resume communication via the correct channels.
