We can't believe that there is only one week to go!
This week, Year 5 had the exciting opportunity to welcome a local police officer as part of their Unit of Inquiry into crime and punishment. The officer shared valuable insights about their role in the community, emphasising the importance of safety, responsibility, and law enforcement. Pupils engaged in an interactive discussion, asking thoughtful questions about the challenges police face and the ways they help maintain peace and order. This visit not only enhanced their understanding of community service but also fostered a greater respect for the rule of law, making for an enriching experience that tied directly into their learning objectives.
We have also been holding our termly Pupil Progress Meetings. These meetings provide an important opportunity for teachers to discuss each child's progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. By reviewing individual achievements and challenges, we can ensure that every pupil is on the path to success.
You may be aware that we hold weekly professional development meetings for staff every Wednesday. This week, our cluster of academies held a collaborative meeting focused on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Teachers from the various academies came together to deepen their understanding of what concepts are and explore effective strategies for developing children's conceptual understanding across the curriculum. Through engaging discussions and shared experiences, participants highlighted the importance of connecting learning to real-world contexts and fostering critical thinking skills. This collaborative effort not only reinforced our commitment to the IB philosophy but also aimed to enhance the educational experiences we provide for our pupils, ensuring they develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Our last week is another busy with a few events to take note of -

Online gaming enjoys an apparently ever-increasing level of popularity and many players are eager to connect with each other as they enjoy a friendly competition or go for the win side by side. Whether it is to strategise and coordinate, or simply have a chat as your child indulges in their hobby, the fact remains that plenty of games now offer the facility for players to talk to one another, be that in a text or in voice format.
Unfortunately this functionality, which is used to connect with strangers just as often as it is with friends, poses several risks to younger players and it is therefore vital for parents and carers to understand these safety concerns. The below guide offers expert advice on the issues that may arise when using in-game chat and explains how you can safeguard your child(ren) as they make use of this technology.
A reminder that all of our parent/carer community are invited to create an account with National Online Safety, which provides a wide range of resources such as the guides we include in our newsletters, courses and video resources. We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to the Key Stage Lead and/or Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.
