The Role of the School Counselor

"Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow." (ASCA, 2017)

What does the counselor do?

  • Assist with conflict management

  • Behavior modification

  • Attendance counseling

  • Advocate for student's academic needs

  • Provide resources for homeless and foster students

  • Provide community resources for all families

  • Collaborate and support teachers, parents, & school administrators for student success

  • Promote and support student's academic, personal/social, and emotional well being
