Fine Arts Focus students in Art, Band, Chorus, Dance and Theatre from Andrew Jackson Middle School traveled to Charlotte to see the pre-Broadway production of “The Wiz.” The revival of the 1975 musical with tunes like “Ease on Down the Road” and “Home” going to see a Broadway show is an experience that 6th, 7th and 8th graders rarely get to experience. One of the cast of the show was a Charlotte-native, Phillip Johnson Richardson who plays the Tinman. Just like our students at AJMS who are preparing to present “The Little Mermaid Jr.” on November 30th and December 1st, Phillip participated in musical theatre in school and those experiences inspired him to take his craft even further. Seeing “The Wiz” in person is one of the unique and wonderful aspects of the Focus Program at Andrew Jackson Middle School.
Congratulations to 7th Grade Chorus student Harmony Parsons for being selected to the SC American Choral Directors Assoc. Middle School Honor Choir! She will be traveling to Francis Marion University for the All-State weekend to work with collegiate choral directors from across the country. This highly competitive honor choir will perform a selection of songs on the final day of the All-State Weekend on January 20, 2024. Harmony is one of six students from Lancaster County to be selected. Congratulations!
