What is the School Improvement Council?

The School Improvement Council is an advisory committee to the school's principal and faculty. The council is required by law to exist in every public school in South Carolina.

Who can be involved with the School Improvement Council?

The School Improvement Council exists of parents, educators, and community stakeholders working to improve the local schools.


What is the purpose of the School Improvement Council?

The main emphasis is to improve local schools. The School Improvement Council works with the school to develop and implement a five-year school improvement plan, also known as a school renewal plan. This plan sets goals and objectives for the school. Through a collaborative effort, the School Improvement Council and the school work to reach these goals and objectives throughout the year. In addition, the council reviews the school's report card and helps write the narrative.
