The LS Lab offers academic support to students who might benefit from individual or small group intervention in literacy and/or math. Students also utilize the Lab for help with organization, completing assignments, and as a distraction-free test-taking space. Sessions are based on student needs and can include short-term interventions as well as long-term work.
Because LCDS is an independent school, the school does not write or follow Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans, which are public school documents. However, for students with documented needs, the Learning Specialist creates an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) or Individualized Support Plan (ISP) designed to provide teachers with an overview of strengths, challenges, strategies, and accommodations. ILP/ISPs are crafted to support students without altering the curriculum or grading policies. The LS Learning Specialist also consults with parents, teachers, and administration so student needs can be addressed holistically. The goal of the Lab is to support students in becoming confident, independent, and efficient learners with strong self-advocacy skills.
Students may be eligible to attend the Lab based on benchmark testing, teacher and/or parent referral, or based on a documented diagnosis that indicates the student would benefit from extra support. Sessions are based on student needs and can include short-term interventions as well as long-term work.
I have spent my career in education working exclusively in learning support environments. I earned my Masters Degree with a Reading Specialist certification in 2014. I love working with LS students, as it is such a magical time in their learning journey. I could not imagine a more rewarding way to spend each and every day!
