The marching season is from mid July through November. Marching performances include parades, pep rallies, varsity football games, and marching competitions. Marching band is a requirement for enrollment in band and gains you PE credits.
The concert band season runs from November to May. Concert performances include holiday and spring concerts, ATSSB Region, Area, and State auditions, solo and ensemble contests, and UIL contests. Concert band is a requirement for enrollment in band and gains you Fine Arts credits.
Wind Ensemble is the varsity band and a greater level of difficulty in music requires members to possess exceptional musicianship and good work ethic.
Symphonic Band is the non-varsity band and students enrolled in Wind Ensemble may play a secondary instrument in Symphonic Band if scheduling allows.
Jazz Band performs at contests and concerts throughout the year. Students may also audition for the ATSSB Region Jazz Band, and those placing high enough may record for Area and/or State auditions. Students enrolled in Jazz Band must also be enrolled in band.
The Illusion Color Guard is the visual component to marching band and attends all events with the band. Guard members use combinations of dance, flags, rifles, and sabres to provide visual effects to the music. No experience is necessary, but performers must be enrolled in the Color Guard class.
Winter Guard is the indoor competitive component to the Illusion Color Guard. The season starts in November, with competitions January through April. No experience is necessary, but performers must be enrolled in the Color Guard class.
UIL hosts two contests each spring for small student ensembles and soloists: Solo and Ensemble in February and, for performers who qualify, State Solo and Ensemble in May.
