3rd Grade News – Week 7

Dear Parents & Families,

We’ve had another awesome week in 3rd grade! Students are growing more independent, working hard, and making us so proud every single day.

Pie in the Face Competition

We Invite all students to support Childhood Cancer Awareness by bringing in loose change or donations. Collections will take place each morning in the front lobby from 7:30-8:00 AM, September 1-30, 2026. Each donation counts as a vote! Students can choose which teacher they want to see get a pie in the face by placing their donation in that teacher's labeled jar. All proceeds will benefit The Peyton Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded to selected 2027 LHS seniors this spring. The teacher with the most donations will get pied during a special assembly on Monday, October 5th—don't forget to wear yellow or gold on October 5th to show your support!

• Handwriting homework - Due every Friday! 

• Reading logs - Checked daily... Practice creates confidence!

Objectives:

📚 This Week in 3rd Grade ✏️

➗ Math – We completed our Module 1 assessment this week, and the kiddos worked so hard! I was so proud to see students using strategies, showing their work, underlining important information in word problems, and persevering through challenging questions. Thank you for supporting their learning at home, it truly makes a difference! Students have brought their Module 1 books home, and the Succeed book is full of great practice opportunities for the skills we learned throughout the module.

Next week in math, we will continue exploring measurement concepts. Students will solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, determine weight using appropriate units and tools, and solve one-step word problems involving weights within 100 while using estimation to check the reasonableness of their answers. We will also learn about liquid volume by exploring liters and milliliters, decomposing a liter to better understand the sizes of 1 liter, 100 milliliters, 10 milliliters, and 1 milliliter. Finally, students will estimate and measure liquid volume in liters and milliliters using a vertical number line.

🔤 Phonics – Phonics words will be sent home at the beginning of every week for students to practice throughout the week. There will be a spelling test over these words every Friday.  

📚 Reading – I can identify important events and details about a person’s life and explain how those events helped shape who they became.

✍️ Grammar – I can use commas correctly when writing a series of three or more items. 

🔬 Science –  I can demonstrate and describe forces acting on an object in contact or

at a distance, including magnetism, gravity, and pushes and pulls.

🌎 Social Studies – I can identify groups and individuals who contributed to the founding and building of the United States.
