3rd Grade News – Week 3

Dear Parents & Families,

We had a wonderful second week of 3rd grade! Students are getting more confident with our routines, building friendships, and diving even deeper into learning. We’re so proud of their

hard work and the excitement they bring to class each day!

Important Information

As we start to enter grades in the gradebook, here is information from The Student Handbook on our Grading Policy...

• In the event that you or your child is not satisfied with a grade they made on an assignment, they may redo the assignment for homework to receive partial credit added to the original grade.

• Here is the exact statement from the Student Handbook regarding revising work:

"Students are allowed to correct. The grade recorded will be an average of the first grade and the redo grade with 70 being the highest grade that can be earned. In order to ensure grading

reflects a student's relative mastery of grade level TEKS, the ability to make corrections on daily work and tests/projects will be limited to 50% of the recorded grades per subject during a 9-week period." 

Redo Opportunities by Subject:

RLA: 

8 reading grades → 4 can be revised per 9 weeks

7 ELA grades → 3 can be revised per 9 weeks

3 Spelling grades → 1 can be revised per 9 weeks

Math:

 15 grades → 7 can be revised per 9 weeks

Science: 10 grades → 5 can be revised per 9 weeks

Social Studies: 10 grades → 5 can be revised per 9 weeks

Objectives:

📚 This Week in 3rd Grade ✏️

➗ Math – This week, students will continue building their multiplication and division skills through hands-on learning and problem-solving activities. 

We will:

• Interpret unknowns in division problems using array models.

• Explore the commutative property of multiplication through arrays and skip counting.

• Use equal groups and arrays to find related multiplication facts.

• Model the distributive property by breaking apart numbers to solve multiplication problems.

• Represent multiplication facts using area models and number lines.

We are excited to see our mathematicians grow their confidence and understanding of these important concepts!

REMEMBER to practice multiplication facts EVERY NIGHT! The kids can get on IXL to do this or use multiplication cards.

🔤 Phonics – Phonics words will be sent home today, Monday, for students to practice throughout the week. There will be a spelling test over these words this Friday.  

📚 Reading – I can tell the most important parts of a text and use them to write a summary.

✍️ Grammar – I can identify verbs in a sentence.

Handwriting homework will be sent home today, Monday, and it is due this Friday.

🔬 Science –  I can compare and measure properties.

🌎 Social Studies – I can identify and compare how local communities and other communities meet their needs for government, education, communication, transportation, and recreation.
