What is Second Step Curriculum:

A holistic approach to building supportive communities for every child through social-emotional learning. Second Step is research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children from Early Learning through Grade 8.

The Second Step curriculum is used for monthly classroom lessons. After explaining what a counselor is and how a counselor can help a student in the month of August, we begin utilizing the Second Step curriculum which covers topics including learning to listen, focus attention and follow directions, understanding empathy and feelings, managing emotions, as well as solving problems.

August Class Lesson

During the week of August 23rd through 27th, we will be visiting classrooms and discussing the role of a counselor. We want to take this time to introduce ourselves and explain "What a counselor is" and "What a counselor does" at OGP. We have created video recordings for both kindergarten and first grade students who may have missed this lesson at school due to hybrid scheduling.
