Summary Major Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the improvement of teaching and learning in the institution, through the application of relevant educational/learning technologies. Work with faculty and other staff by leading and facilitating the process of delivering courses /programmes in the flexible learning environment. Promote e-Learning as a critical strategy to advance the development of TVET. Advocate for the use of flexible delivery modalities and tools in the development and implementation of online courses and programmes. Provide user and other related support to students and faculty in online courses and programmes.

Details of Major Responsibilities

• Monitor the implementation of the organizations Flexible Learning Policy and Flexible Learning Strategic Plan at the VTDI
• Coordinate and guide the use of the institution's learning technologies (including Moodle)
• Develop and implement training initiatives to support the use and integration of technology in programme delivery
• Develop and implement training initiatives to support the use of instructional strategies designed for online, flexible and distance learning
• Develop and implement training initiatives to support online course design and development
• Develop coursewares, learning objects and other instructional resources (e.g. audio, video, multimedia) to support flexible, online and distance learning
• Manage the department's risk
• Develop policy and/or procedural documents related to distance education.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programmes/courses delivered via online, flexible and distance modalities and recommend pedagogical and technological improvements
• Ensure compliance with licensing and copyright laws and regulations.
• Ensure compliance with the University Council of Jamaica Distance Education Standards
• Coordinate and implement online instructional design projects
• Advise on the procurement and maintenance of appropriate technology to be employed for delivery via online education.
• Prepare and submit reports on the activities of the Distance Education Unit when required by the VP Academics or other relevant stakeholders
• Develop and manage the unit’s budget
• Visit extension sites to monitor activities related to the delivery of the VTDI’s programmes via distance/online education technologies.
• Lead and supervise staff in the unit
• Evaluate performance of staff in the unit
• Evaluate and monitor internal quality assurance systems
• Establish and maintain professional network with local, regional and international institutions to facilitate an improved offering of the VTDI’s programmes via online/distance education.
• Research to ensure initiatives led by the unit are in keeping with current trends and practices in online, flexible and distance learning
• Participate in other quality assurance and accreditation activities as required
