The emphasis in Health Education is on the practical aspects of personal and community health. One year of Physical Education is required for graduation. Students are encouraged to participate in the Physical Education program each semester during the ninth grade.
4840 One Semester – ½ Credit 5 Periods per week

*Open to Grade 9 if unfilled by Grades 10-12
Units include: wellness and prudent life style factors; fitness for life; first aid and CPR; nutrition and weight control; mental and emotional health; human sexuality; AIDS and other STDs; tobacco; alcohol and substance abuse. Course requirements include reading, weekly homework assignments, credit tests and quizzes, and a well-maintained notebook. It is required to fulfill the graduation requirement for Health.
Physical Education
5860 One Semester – 1/4 Credit

This is a course for students to participate in a variety of physical fitness, individual/team sports and lifetime activities. Basic to intermediate skills will be taught long with game instruction, rules, and tactics. Potential Activities may include: Aquatics, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Kickball, Pickleball, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Team Handball, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Resistance Training, Fitness Testing, Circuit Training, Step Work, Walking, Jogging, Jump Rope, Spinning, Yoga, Pilates, any of a wide variety of fitness activities, and lifetime activities such as Can Jam, Cornhole, and Bocce. Proper attire is required for all activities. Two semesters of Physical Education are required for graduation.
Basketball
58550 One Semester – 1/4 Credit 5 Periods per week

Prerequisite: 1 semester of Physical Education
This is a course is an intermediate level class which provides an opportunity for students to narrow their focus to a single sport with the goal of achieving a higher level of mastery. Students will learn the skills, strategies, and terminology necessary to successfully participate in lead-up, small, and full-sided basketball games. Topics and skills may include: body stance/positioning, ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, rules/scoring/terminology, individual and group attacking and defending, strength and conditioning applications, recovery, safety, sporting behavior and emotional management.
5890 One Semester – 1/4 credit 5 Periods per week
Grades 9-12 No prerequisite
This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn fitness concepts and conditioning techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive weight training and cardiorespiratory endurance activities. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of strength training, aerobic training, and overall fitness training and conditioning. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime.
*May be used for PE or elective credit.
**This course may be taken as an additional elective for one semester only.
5990 One Semester – 1/2 credit* 5 Periods per week
Grades 11-12 1 semester of PE
This comprehensive course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a certified lifeguard and explore additional career opportunities while earning an Industry Recognized 12-point Credential. Students will receive instruction in lifeguarding techniques, first aid, CPR, and AED use. Additionally, students will earn and learn about various certifications that can enhance career prospects and open doors to exciting opportunities. This course may lead to employment through the Recreation Department.
*This course fulfills the second half of the Physical Education (PE) credit requirement. Additionally, it serves as the 1/2 elective credit for students who have been granted a PE waiver.
