Mrs. Loman thought she might be losing her mind. She was walking through dense forest, miles from the road. And she definitely was not a hiker. She looked up in to the warm, blue sky. She saw a large, white bird flying overhead. It looked like an owl, but she lost it in the sun.
She looked down at the paper Evan and Justice had given her. It was hard to tell from the roughly drawn map, but she was quite sure she was close to the right place. "Unless this is a mean joke, the treasure should be right past those big hills," she told herself aloud.
Of course, she didn't know what the treasure was. The note just said if she finds it, she has to use the money to buy homes for all the families in the shelter.
"I sure hope this is for real," she said as she walked toward the hills.
It was not easy moving through the thick forest, but eventually she rounded the hill. It took her another long moment to figure out exactly what she saw. It was poking out here and there under the leaves, sticks and dirt that formed the forest floor.
When she saw the claws and the open mouth filled with big teeth, she gasped.
"My word," she exclaimed. "It's definitely dead, but it looks like a...." She started brushing off some of the leaves and soil. "It's half buried, but I think it's a...." She couldn't believe her eyes as uncovered as much of the head as she could. "It's a perfectly fossilized T-Rex!"
She looked back down at the note and read it aloud. "If that old angry rock doesn't get you enough money, have them look inside. The pistol they find should be worth a fortune."
The owl flew in a big circle overhead. It sent a silent message to the stars, letting Bob and Leah know the mission was indeed complete.
