Concept Covered: Rounding whole numbers to a specified power of 10 (10s, 100s, 1000s).
Materials: Mini-whiteboards (or notebooks), projector/cards.
How to Play:
Setup: Students need a way to quickly write and show their answer (mini-whiteboards are ideal).
The Card: The teacher displays a prompt card or slide that contains two pieces of information: the Starting Number (e.g., 14,629) and the Target Place Value (e.g., nearest thousand).
The Challenge: Students have 10–15 seconds to mentally, or quickly on their board, round the starting number to the target place value.
The Reveal: On the teacher's command ("Show me!"), all students hold up their board simultaneously. The teacher can quickly scan the room to assess understanding.
