Earlier this year, Lakeview started a school newspaper by the name of Hightide. Between our reporters, editors, photographers, and many other staff members, we were able to complete 4 total publishings. Everyone on our team had their own way to contribute, whether it was through stories, comics, or fun puzzles.
I really enjoyed being able to bring such a large idea to life with the help of my friends and Mrs. Fischer. My favorite part of this year's paper was all the new opportunities it brought along with it, such as presentations, conducting interviews, and managing my new leadership position. I’m looking forward to training in a new staff manager next year and finding ways to improve the club as a whole.
We have a few positions that did not get filled this year that I’m hoping will be next year, like our secretary / minutes-taker. Unlike this year we will be looking for a staff assistant to train and take over as staff manager. Many other positions are available next year, reporter, editor, photographer, cartoon artist, tech, and staff leadership. I can’t wait to see how our up and coming members can help improve our school's newspaper further.
A big thank you to Mrs. Fishers for supporting Kendra and me for the past two years with planning and executing this project. She is the only reason the two of us were able to get this approved by the board and available to all the other students. Without her guidance I don’t think our ideas would have been concrete enough to get this far. I can speak for all of the current Hightide Newspaper staff, that we will all miss her next year while she is on maternity leave and can’t wait for her to be back. I would also like to thank everyone involved in the paper for their hard work, despite any complications or confusion, during our first year.
We hope you all have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to next year and the improvements it will bring.
