About Ms. Batschi

Family

I am the oldest of five children and thoroughly enjoy being an auntie. I grew up with a father in the Navy, and though he was landbased, I ended up attending four different elementary schools. We then settled in Bremerton, WA where I attended a fabulous junior high and high school. I love Washington, though I can enjoy the different kind of beauty Utah holds.

Education

Teaching is in my blood. I was highly influenced by my mother who values education more than anyone I know and set a wonderful example. A high school band teacher showed me what a good teacher could do for students. I attended Brigham Young University with the intention of teaching music. That was not to be and I ended up in Elementary Education. I love teaching all subjects and all students. I received my Masters of Education from Southern Utah University.

Teaching

After teaching two years of 5th grade in Payson, I left to teach here at Lakeview Academy and have been here for long enough to see multiple sets of siblings come through my doors. I love the families and the community here.

Education Philosophy

Learning and growing is an expectation in my classroom. Students are deeply individual and may each have a different path to meet those expectations. I support every one of those paths.

They all lead to my understanding that every child works, learns, behaves, and is motivated differently. There is not one solution for a whole school or a whole class.

I believe children learn best through a balance of discovery and direct instruction. They retain content longer when they have figured it out for themselves.

I believe all students can learn. They learn differently and have different areas that they will do better in. When one strategy doesn’t work, try something else. There are ways of reaching every student. I say this without flipancy. I do believe that and I have seen it.

I believe in using modern technology and strategies for continuous improvement and to meet the needs of the ever-changing group of students we have. We can not teach 21st century students with 20th century methods.

Lastly, I believe students learn best through collaboration. Adults learn from each other. Students should as well. They will learn communication skills as well and content.
