Transition services for 18-21 year old students are not a continuation of the same program they participated in for the last three to four years in high school. Transition programs are ideally located outside of the high school setting, either at post-secondary institutions or in other community settings. A community-based program allows students to better transfer learned skills in an authentic settings.
The WINGS Program will be located at an off-site, community-based residential location. This offers students the opportunity to learn and practice skills in authentic, real-life, community settings. Students will be transported from LUHS to the off-site location, where they will start and end their day. Throughout the day, students will participate in various activities within the community to increase their vocational, educational, daily living and recreational skills.
