Course Overview
OPEN TO: Grade 11 with below B average in English
The 11th grade English course is designed to continue the development of English skills necessary for effective communication, with an emphasis on American Literature. This course will continue development of vocabulary, writing, and oral communication skills, and an appreciation of multicultural literature.
Students will read novels, plays, poems, short stories and non-fiction. Students will learn through small groups, essays, projects and
teacher-facilitated discussion that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies.
This course will develop essential reading, writing and critical-thinking skills necessary for high school and college or career readiness.
We read I am the Messenger a highly engaging novel about how anyone can be a hero
We research and write about engaging topics like the value and use of Artificial Intelligence
We read the intense work Night by Elie Wiesel and research the historical period of WWII
We discuss the criminal justice system and how we judge guilt and innocence when we read Monster.
