Do I qualify for Opeb Benefits?

Not all retiress are eligible for Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB), which includes health, dental, and vision insurance after retirement.

Use the flowchart below to assist with determining your eligibility.

1. Did you have three (3) consecutive years of TCRS service in any Shelby County school system as of 07/01/2016?

If yes, move to the next question. If no, you are not eligible for OPEB benefits.

2. Were you hired by LSS directly from Shelby County Schools or a shelby county municipal school system prior to 10/15/2018?

If yes, move to the next question. If no, you are not eligible for OPEB benefits.

3. On your retirement date, will you have at least 15 years of service will LSS (service with Shelby County Schools counts)?

AND

4. On your retirement date, will you have been enrolled in health insurance with Lakeland School System for at least one year immediately preceding retirement?

AND

5. Are you eligible for and drawing (or will immediately draw) a TCRS pension payment on your date of retirement from LSS?

If yes to questions 3, 4, and 5, you are eligible for OPEB benefits. If no, you are not eligible for OPEB benefits.
