We wanted a system that allows us to be competitive in every game
Regardless of weather, size, speed, or any of the many other uncontrollable issues.
We understand that the weather in North Idaho is only predictably bad, not friendly to passing in any way
We also understand that we are a small school
This limits what type of athlete walks in the door.
We don’t get a lot of 6’-5” 300 pounders, or 6’-3” 225 pounders,
We get 6’-0” 190 pounders, so we need an offense that allows for success with our kids
The Wing-T works for undersized players, it works for oversized players, it works!
This system creates friendly angles for blockers and runners
It allows for advantages for all players
Ball Control
We have to play our players on both sides of the ball.
If we try to run a hurry-up, spread, run all over the field, 80 plays in a game type offense, our kids are not going to finish in the 4th quarter. They will be dog-tired.
The Wing-T allows for a ball-control offense.
We can hurry-up and fly around on defense, and keep the ball and force the issue on offense.
The Wing-T works in High School Football
Sugar-Salem = Wing-T Team = 4 State Titles in the last 5 years
Fruitland = Wing-T Team = 4 State Titles in 12 years (11 out 12 State Title Game appearances at one point)
Shelley in 3A = Wing-T Team = 6 State Titles
Snake River = Wing-T Team = 10 State Titles (7 with Tom Harrison who is Weiser’s Coach)
Weiser = Wing-T Team = 3 State Titles (2021 with Tom Harrison)
25 of the last 28 State Title teams in 3A Idaho were Wing-T Teams in principle!
Best Bang for the Buck
Passing is heavily based on skills.
Catching, Accurately Throwing, Route Running, Concepts of Routes, Pass-Protections, Pass-Blocking, and much, much more.
We struggle right now to have our players show up to lift. What chance do we have of our players putting in the extra effort it takes to build and maintain the skills necessary to have a good passing game?
What are the possibilities on a pass play?
Incomplete, Sack, Fumble, Interception, or a Completion (the rest are equal to both sides: penalties).
4 out of 5 options are bad!
We spend more time on those parts of the game we know we can do best: RUNNING THE BALL!
Weather
North Idaho (All of Idaho) is a tough place to pass in October and November
Why have an offense that works great in August and September, but not during the time of the season when we play our most important games: League & Playoffs.
We want to spend our time in August and September working on what will carry us through October and November!
Ball Control
3 straight incompletions and a punt = a 30 second or less drive
3 straight runs and a punt = a 2:40 drive.
We want the ball more than the other team!
