Students who take private lessons in addition to their music class show a much higher rate of success and enjoyment with their instrument. These students have a lower frustration level because they are able to receive more individualized attention that they cannot always receive in class due to the structure and size of the class. Students who seek the additional help of a private teacher are more likely to continue on their instrument past high school.
Private lessons typically cost $25 - $35 for a thirty-minute lesson and $40-$60 for an hour lesson, depending on the teacher. A weekly 60 minute lesson for high school students is recommended.
It is important to contact several private teachers to find a compatible personality for your music student. Ask about the teacher’s background and experiences, and tell them a little about your student before the first lesson.
The following is not a complete list of teachers in the area, but a list of those that I am aware of who are highly recommended. If you know of other recommended local private teachers, please let me know so that I can contact them and possibly add them to the list.
I am working to create a fund to help with paying for clinicians to visit our students and for financial assistance in private lessons. If you are interested in financial assistance, please let me know. Personally, my high school band program provided my family with this assistance. It changed my life.
