Thanks for a great 2019-2020 School Year! Miss you!
My Story
I wanted to be a teacher from a young age. My mom made me take Piano lessons when I was in fourth grade. Little did I know that would lead to being a music teacher! I performed in Elementary Choir. A friend of my dad's gave me an old Flute to play in Sixth Grade Band. I took Violin lessons for a little while in junior high and played around with the guitar some growing up. I started playing Oboe in eighth grade band after my mom found an amazing deal at a yard sale. In high school, I told my band director that I wanted to be a music teacher, so she made sure that I learned how to play other instruments as well. I continued playing Oboe, Flute, and Piano, and added Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, and Trombone. I played in Concert Band, Pep Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Band. I joined High School Choir when I could fit it in my schedule again. I conducted High School Band every year at the Young Conductors' Concert. I also helped conduct Junior High Band and accompany Junior High Choir during my Senior year.
I studied Music Education, English, and Elementary Education at the University of Idaho in Moscow. I played Oboe in the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra and Flute in the Marching Band. I have taught in the Lakeland School District for 12 years. During that time, I have taught at JBE, TLE, BKE, GWE, and LJHS. I taught elementary music for 9 years, sixth grade band for 7 years, Junior High Choir for 4 years, and Junior High Bands for 3 years.
My heart is so happy teaching Elementary Music and 6th Grade Band!
I’ve had many family members, friends, and teachers who have inspired me to be a lifelong musician and strive to inspire my music students to become lifelong musicians. Professional musicians, music teachers, or music enthusiasts who enjoy listening to, singing, playing, and creating music for themselves and those they choose share it with.
