Homework + Links & Resources

Nightly homework should be focused on independent reading for at least 30 minutes after the school day ends. Homework will be sent home often, particularly if there is classwork which is important for students to complete.

If you're ever looking for some good online sources for reading material, check out the following:

NEWSELA.com is a great resource we use often in class to read grade level appropriate current news in a variety of topics. If you'd like to have your student show you, they can use this link! If he/she is logged into their school Google account they can open Newsela.com from Clever or from the Google classroom, and choose to "sign in with google" when prompted to read more of an article.

Ed1Stop by CCCOE is a district portal organized by our district & the Contra Costa County Dept. of Ed, to connect students to websites which often need accounts. Using our Springhill school account respectfully, students may access a wide range of educational websites that include BrianPop [awesome for history, social studies, science & more], Code.org, World E-Books, and more!! Students can access it by clicking here ed1stopbyCCCOE  and using the following site credentials: Username is: Springhill_stu [don't forget underscore] & Password: scorpions [lowercase]

Scholastic Book Clubs: Usually I will use our Friday Bags to send home monthly paper flyers for various ways to purchase books. An additional incentive is any orders placed through our classroom page earns points in my name, which I turn around and use to purchase supplies for our classroom library. Here is a general flyer in a digital format to shop for books: Scholastic Book Clubs Online
