Joy Herrera ' 24

Joy went on a field trip to WM's Grand Central Landfill in my CE 321 course. She was startled to learn about the amount of trash we generate every day has created mountains of trash. She wants to educate the community to help them make more sustainable choices. WM collaborated with us. They partially funded this project and helped us gain more knowledge about the engineered landfill. Now, Joy has created this landfill model that she will be using to demonstrate and assess its effectiveness in educating the community. She will be running her pilot study in CE 203 course students soon. She will be presenting her work at National Conference for Undergraduate Research NCUR 2023.
