There are a range of different ways in which we support learners at Ladybridge with issues they may experience around their wellbeing and mental health:
School Wellbeing Team
We have a Wellbeing Team within school which is made up of members of staff from the RISE and Pastoral teams, who can provide weekly sessions to support learners with an issue that they are experiencing. This is one of our more widely accessed options, and can be accessed through completing a wellbeing referral form, which can be done by the learner themselves or by a member of staff on their behalf. The form can be accessed through the weekly learner bulletin.
Bolton MHST
If we feel that a learner has a problem that is a little more complex, we may look at making a referral to the Bolton MHST team for them, who have mental health practitioners attending school once a week to deliver sessions. They typically work with learners around low-level worry and anxiety.
CBT
We have two members of staff within school who are qualified to deliver CBT. This is a fantstic resource for our learners with more complex issues to access, particular those learners who have experienced some form of trauma.
The NEST
The NEST is located within our school farm and is an area in school where learners can go if they’re not feeling themselves. It is designed as a short-term intervention that will allow them the opportunity to have a ‘time-out’, with the aim of getting back in the right frame of mind to continue with the rest of the school day. This can be accessed at any time of the day - if you learners are in lesson, they simply ask their teacher for permission to leave the lesson and inform them that they wish to go to The NEST. Staff are then on hand in The NEST to support learners as necessary.
BeKindToMyMind Champions
BeKindToMyMind Champions are a group of learners within school who can offer peer-to-peer support to Year 7 - 9 learners. They are based in The NEST at lunchtimes on the following days:
Monday - Year 7
Wednesday - Year 8
Friday - Year 9
Whilst they will not look to provide the same support that a learner would get from a member of the wellbeing team, our BKTMM Champions will offer guidance on how to access the most appropriate support for the issue being experienced. The BKTMM website is also a useful resource and can be found here.
Self-Help Website
We have recently launched a self-help website for learners to access themselves which can guide you on ways to positively support yourself with an issue that you may have. We recommend that you use this site as a means of getting further information to help give you understanding of why you may be feeling the way that you are, but also look to access further support from within school or an external agency.
