When you give time these are just some of the things you can do and ways it will help out those experiencing homelessness or living in poverty, help to keep our anti-bullying events going, and support our community outreach projects:
- Donation coordination, sorting, and distribution. This helps to make sure we are always able to receive the generous donations by community members.
- Clothes closet / Housing supply support. This will help keep our storage unit organized with up to date inventory so we always know what we have and what we need.
- Homeless outreach / advocacy. We are always looking for more "boots on the ground". People willing to go out and hit the streets to locate and make contact with those experiencing homelessness in our community.
- Transportation support. We are always in need of a truck for picking up large donations as well as transportation support to get clients to various locations locally for various purposes. (Must have a valid driver's license, registration, insurance, and your own vehicle).
- Online Research, Webinars & Training. There are always new reports coming out that talk about new innovative ways to successfully end homelessness as well as various informative webinars and training. We always want to stay up to date on the current best practices but it can be time consuming.
- Housing support. There is a shortage of housing in California so finding places that will rent to our clients is one of our biggest challenges to date. We are always in need of more people hitting the pavement making connections with landlords and management companies so we can get more people off the streets faster.
- Employment support. We all are aware that when someone is looking for employment the odds are not in your favor if you don't have a resume, if you do have one but there are gaps between jobs, you do not have an address, ID, Social Security Card, clean clothes, and a shower. For those ready to start working we need support getting those clients prepared as well as helping find local businesses willing to hire our clients.
- Post housing support. Once a client moves into their home and off the streets it can be somewhat of a difficult transition, especially if the client has been on the streets for a long time. We want to make sure they know they have a support team to help them through the transition and assist with getting back on their feet. This can be anything from helping to develop a daily schedule, making sure they plan for when to pay rent and utilities, finding ways to engage with the community, among other things.
- Camp clean up's. The public's number one issue with homelessness is the trash and debris from various homeless camps. A lot of this is preventable while some of it is not. We would love to have some volunteers to help keep the community clean and safe when we come accross a large amount of trash and debris
- Food distribution. For our clients that have been housed or our clients still on the streets we receive food donations that we sort and make up individual packages for them. This is not for the general homeless population, only those we work with. Once a week we could use support sorting food as well as distribution to those without transportation.
- Admin / Accounting / Data Entry Support. We are always looking for people that can create forms, logs, and various documents to streamline the flow of data and information. We have a few sub-projects that are part of our Homeless project with specific tracking so there is an option for taking on a specific project only.
- Social Media & Marketing support. Everyone loves success stories, we just don't always have the time to put them all out there. We would love to have someone that can keep our success stories up to date on all our social media accounts as well as sharing relevant articles found online or from partner organizations, etc.
- Annual Point In Time Count. Every year the county mandates that the homeless are counted within the city. We need volunteers this year to help in this effort. The sign up sheet is listed above with the other links.
- Grant Writing and Research. We are in desperate need of a volunteer that can research and write grants that are focused on homelessness and poverty. We have a program that we have purchased that focuses on everything grants including current opportunities so the foot work has already been done, now we need someone to take it and run with it!
- Fuel for Success Event set up
- Fuel for Success Event participant (wear superhero attire, wave posters, and cheer on students as they arrive at school).
- Make posters for a Fuel for Success Event
- Community Outreach project coordinator and set up.
- Sign up / Sign In for Community Outreach event
- There are sporadic things that do come up from time to time we could use help on but everything listed above are the main things we could use volunteer help on.
Imagine if we had people for every VOLUNTEER opportunity how much more effective and efficient we could be!!!!
The IMPACT would be HUGE and VISIBLE within the community!
