Auditions
What is an audition?
A show choir audition is when students demonstrate their skills as singers and dancers to help the directors determine which group would be the best fit for them. We want our students to have fun and feel confident about the audition process so they can do their best and we can find the right place for each individual.
Below are videos to help you to be familiar with the Choreography before the audition. Be sure to watch and learn from the "talk through" before you try to do it with the music.
Below are the backing tracks for "Welcome to the Jungle" slowed down so that you can gradually speed it up as you learn the song.
Eligibility to participate
Any student in grade 6-8 that attends Logan Middle, Longfellow Middle, or Polytechnic is eligible to participate in show choir.
Students are required to be enrolled in choir at their school.
Polytechnic students are excused from this requirement as choir is not offered at that building.
Longfellow students that could not enroll in choir due to taking multiple music courses should contact Mrs. Stutesman to join after-school Glee Club.
Logan students that could not enroll in choir due to taking multiple music courses should contact Mrs. Taylor to schedule voice lessons.
Who needs to audition?
Not all students need to audition to participate in show choir.
6th grade students: DO NOT need to audition. All 6th grade students will be in the Omega group to learn the basics of show choir.
7th & 8th grade students: All 7th and 8th grade students should audition for a place in either the Alpha or Omega group.
Students will not be excluded from participating in show choir based on their audition- ALL STUDENTS HAVE A PLACE IN SHOW CHOIR!
Drop- In Audition Prep
Students that plan to audition are encouraged to attend a drop-in audition prep day on Thursday, September 7 from 3:30-5:00 at Logan Middle. During this time students will get to practice the music and dance selection for the auditions that will take place the following week. This is not a required practice, but it gives students an opportunity to practice prior to the audition if they would like extra time to prepare.
Auditions- September 11
Auditions for the Alpha group will take place on Monday, September 11 from 4:30-6:30 in the Logan Middle School auditorium.
Students should come to the audition wearing clothes that they can dance in comfortably and tennis shoes (no sandals or crocs please). Please bring a water bottle and be ready to do your best!
Audition results will be emailed out no later than Friday, September 15 so students know which group they are in for the season.
Parent Meeting
All students and families are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Monday, September 18 at 5:00 pm in the Logan Middle School Auditorium. All students will also have their first rehearsal that evening:
Omega- Rehearsal from 3:30-5:00, parent meeting for everyone at 5:00
Alpha- Parent meeting for everyone at 5:00, rehearsal from 5:30-6:30
At this meeting we will go through the important information that families will need for the show choir season. If you cannot attend the meeting the information will also be emailed after the meeting.
