During the 2020-2021 school year, I was part of the inaugural class of RISE 20/20 (Redefining Integration for Student Engagement with a 20/20 Vision for the Future).
RISE 20/20 is a group of educators dedicated to creating an environment in which teachers will have built-in connections to help them navigate uncharted waters to develop new, engaging and meaningful opportunities that will expand our impact beyond our walls.
Details:
● RISE 20/20 is a three-year cohort commitment
● 4-5 trainings per year, primarily held on regularly scheduled district professional development days
● Innovative coaching experiences
● RISE 20/20 is centered on best practices utilizing built-in tools to create engaging experiences for students and redefine how technology is used in the School District of La Crosse.
● Content is based on Apple's leadership series, including the Elements of Learning, Innovation in Schools and Leadership in Schools books.
This has been a unique year of teaching and learning for our students and staff. Thankfully, it has been filled with unexpected challenges as well as new opportunities for growth. Our RISE 20/20 cohort has become a community in which we can lean on to listen, to inspire, to learn from, while also engaging with when we need a boost to our academic and emotional well-being.
As part of the cohort we were asked to create a project. The ultimate goal of this project is to not only impact our classrooms, but also help teachers throughout my building and/or the district to further integrate technology integration in a meaningful way.
As part of my RISE 20/20 I created a collection of videos on how to use the databases specific for the students of Hamilton/SOTA I. I plan to create videos for my school (Hamilton/SOTA I) featuring the databases paid for the School District of La Crosse (Tumblebooks, PebbleGo, etc). These videos are showcased here and on my Youtube account.
In the future I would like to create general videos that can be used by any teacher across the district and go beyond the school walls. I would also like to think about how to curate and collect in one location all of the many videos, links, and resources that we have created in the district in one easy-to-use location to better assist our students and staff across the School District of La Crosse.
It was my honor to be a part of this group led by Maggie McHugh and Bethany Nugent.

Learn how to use Tumblebooks, animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. They are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sounds, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book (and some classics) which you can read, or have read to you. There is a link on the students' iPad directly to Tumblebooks.
