Battery C
Overview/ Description of Battery C
Battery C is a part the 3rd Battalion of the 197th Feild Artillery Unit of the New Hampshire National Guard based out of Laconia and Franklin. On May 13th, 1968 Battery C was activated (they found out about the deployment mid-april).
Battery C was called to action on May 13th 1968, On Sept. 17th 1968 Battery C was Flown to Vietnam, The Battery C boys were in Vietnam for about a year.
Letter Of Appreciation
On the 25th of October 1969, Lieutenant General Frank T. Mildren of the US Army wrote a Letter of Appreciation to the Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion, 197th Field Artillery of the NH National Guard.
The first paragraph of the letter mentions the initial departure and calling of the battalion, it praised the Battalion for being "New Hampshire's Finest". Shortly after landing in Vietnam Battery C quickly became a part of the largest field artillery unit in Vietnam. 3 weeks after their arrival they were pronounced ready for combat operations. The unit fired thousands of rounds on the enemy in support of the US and Free World Military Services.
They departed Vietnam on the 3rd of September, 1969. The Army praised the battalion for their service in Vietnam.
