Calling all emerging visual and performing artists of the San Fernando Valley!
818 CREATES: Young Creatives Festival invites young artists (16-24) of all disciplines to celebrate their creativity in community from Wednesday, August 5th to Saturday, August 8th at the Taxco Theatre.
818 CREATES aims to shine a spotlight on what many young artists across the Valley are producing in their daily creative practice. The four-day program includes a series of cultural dance showcases, a music jam night, and an immersive gallery installation.
The festival culminates in “The Open Floor,” a mix of open mic and show-and-tell where youth are encouraged to take the stage and share their creative work with the broader community.
818 CREATES is a homegrown celebration of what the youth of the “818 have to offer. Taxco Theatre welcomes you to see how the young creatives of the Valley are enriching their communities through their art, advocacy, and creative exchange.

Taxco Theatre will be home to an art installation throughout the four-day program, highlighting pieces from young artists around the San Fernando Valley.

MUSIC JAM
818 JAMS is a learning-oriented jam where attendees are encouraged to take risks and ask questions; encounter and learn from musicians of diverse experience; and come together to perform while respecting and honoring each other’s journeys and backgrounds. Attendees will also leave knowing how to lead and participate in a jam session environment, equipping them with the tools to host their own jams within their communities, schools, or homes throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Envisioned as equal parts an “open mic” and a creative show-and-tell, The Open Floor invites young creatives of the San Fernando Valley to share their work, invite the audience into their creative process, and spark inspiration within each other. The event aims to provide young and emerging creatives with a safe space to express their creativity, connect with local artists, and center the young talent that spans the San Fernando Valley.

Taxco Theatre was acquired for the Department of Cultural Affairs with the support and leadership of Councilmember Bob Blumenfield in 2019. On February 26, 2024, the Taxco Theatre reopened following a $1.4 million renovation that transforming this neighborhood mainstay into the only publicly-owned facility providing opportunities for local artists, nonprofit organizations, community organizations, and performing arts students to develop and produce new work.
The Taxco Theatre’s vision is to provide an innovative space to bring music, dance, and theater productions to life.
