CSTP Growth & Development
CSTP 1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning
Specifically, I had the most growth in standard 1.4 which was "using a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to meet students' diverse learning needs."
CSTP 4: Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students
In CSTP 4, I had the most growth in standard 4.4 "Planning instruction that incorporates appropriate strategies to meet the learning needs of all students."
The CSTP standard that I needed the most support in and had the most growth in was CSTP 1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning. Specifically, I had the most growth in standard 1.4 which was "using a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to meet students' diverse learning needs." Throughout the course of the school year, I experimented with engagement strategies in order to ensure students were participating in lessons and were retaining knowledge that would be assessed at the end of class. All students in my resource lab have diagnosed attention deficits and keeping them engaged has been a challenge for me in the past. At the beginning of the school year about 75% of students engaged in the majority of lessons. While students were able to complete the majority of the work assigned in class and receive passing grades, I wanted to keep them engaged for a lot longer throughout class time.
Throughout the school year, I incorporated teaching tools that can be located in 'contributing to the profession' tab of this website as well as reflected on what worked best with my students.
In addition to growing in CSTP 1, I also saw growth in CSTP 4: Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students. In this CSTP, I grew the most in standard 4.4 "Planning instruction that incorporates appropriate strategies to meet the learning needs of all students." While there are some similarities between these two standards, CSTP standard 4.4 emphasizes on the planning aspect that goes into lessons. When lesson planning, I strategically embed engagement strategies and tools within my lessons in order to meet the diverse needs of my students. Throughout my induction process, two of my inquiries were devoted to CSTP 1 and 4 so it was great to see that I had to most growth in theses standards.
What are your areas of strength?
Some strengths that I have in the classroom is building rapport with my students and their families. I also do well with celebrating student successes and rewarding them for good behavior. Additionally, I do well at providing student accommodations and pacing my assignments so students do not feel overwhelmed.
Outside the classroom, I do well with meeting IEP deadlines and efficiently communicating information during IEP meetings. I do well with involving students, parents, and teachers in our IEP meetings so they are more involved and educated on the IEP process.
Where are your opportunities for continuous improvement?
Some areas I need to grow in are keeping students engaged through out the entire class period. While students are engaged and on task for about 85% of class time, there are always some students that get distracted by other things on the internet or their cell phones. I also need to improve on differentiating class assignment so students that are more advanced can be a little more challenged by the classroom material.
What are you most proud of?
This year, I am proud to be concluding my last year with my senior students. I've been my students' Resource teacher since they were freshmen and every year I've had the opportunity to move grades them. We began our journey together right before the start of the global pandemic and continued to connect online for the following year and a half that laid in front of us. My students and I have been through so much together, have seen each other grow in countless ways, and I am proud to be finishing their last year of high school with them before entering adulthood.
