Watch the destination of the bus since the bus going in the other way is also labelled with the same number. Note that the cars run on the left side of the road in Japan.
For public transport, we recommend purchasing an IC card (ICOCA, Suica, or similar) that is valid all over Japan for paying trains and buses. Otherwise, the bus fare should be paid in cash (with exact change) upon exiting a bus.

About 20 minutes on foot.
Bus 201 (Gion Via Hyakumanben) to Kyodai Seimon-mae (Kyoto Univ.) (5 min., 230 JPY)
From Hankyu Kawaramachi Station
From JR Kyoto Station
Subway Karasuma Line (Kokusai Kaikan) to Imadegawa Station, then from Imadegawa take Bus 201 (Gion Via Hyakumanben) to Kyodai Seimon-mae (Kyoto Univ.) (30 min., 490 JPY) ), or take Bus 203 (Ginkakuji Temple) to Hyakumanben, then walk (35 min., 490 JPY).
Bus 7 (Ginkakuji Temple) to Hyakumanben (30 min., 230 JPY) then 10 min. on foot.
JR Nara Line (Nara or Joyo) to Tofukuji, then switch to Keihan Line (Demachiyanagi) to Demachiyanagi (25 min., 450 JPY)
Taxi to Main Gate (正門) of the Univ. (show the maps to a driver 30min., 3000 JPY)
Bus 206 is NOT recommended because the bus is packed with tourists.
