Our laboratory is located on the Uji Campus of Kyoto University, within walking distance of Obaku Station on both the JR and Keihan railway lines, and with convenient access from Kyoto Station. Situated in a quiet area in the southwestern part of the campus, the laboratory operates four standalone research buildings with garden spaces: the Nanocellulose Core, Nano-House, and Nano-Factory I and II. In addition, we maintain experimental laboratories in the Main Building, the New Building, and the Experimental Research Building, providing an exceptionally well-equipped and expansive research environment.

The Bio-Nanomaterial Joint Research Hub operated by our laboratory has been selected under the Regional Open Innovation Hub Program (J-Innovation HUB) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). By leveraging a wide range of instruments and facilities, the hub supports the production, analysis, and distribution of bio-derived nanomaterials, while promoting industry–academia collaboration through technical consultations, seminars, and symposia.
In addition, as a nationwide shared-use facility, we have established the Bio-Nanomaterial Manufacturing and Evaluation System, which provides an integrated support framework encompassing material production, processing, and characterization. Through these initiatives, the hub aims to serve as a national center that brings together researchers from across Japan, contributing to the development of novel materials and the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
