The fine art class 美術班
The fine art experimental class in senior high school was founded in 1999 and was transformed into the Art Talented Classes in August 2005 under the order issued by the Kaohsiung Education Bureau. It aims to distinguish students with the potential of fine arts and cultivate multi-dimensional talents with creativity, which is not only for the enrolment rate of relevant art majors in universities, but also the education goal that all students shall be cultivated according to their characteristics.
With both fine facilities and great teachers, we have won many top three prizes in different kinds of national competitions. We regularly hold graduation exhibitions outside the school and art service activities, taking advantage of local resource like the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and getting close connection with the culture development in Kaohsiung. Furthermore, we establish unique school-based art courses that emphasize on simplicity, information and internationalization so as to face the new competitive situation.
The second foreign language experimental classes 國際雙語班
The school was established the "Foreign Language Classes" in 1998 academic year and one of the earliest high schools in Kaohsiung City to receive a subsidy from the Ministry of Education to set up a second foreign language course. In response to the global competition in the future, the students must have international mobility. Besides the common English skills, learning a second foreign language will not only expand students' horizons, but also become a bonus point for seeking an employment in the future. The high school department of the school currently offers Japanese, French, Korean and other second language courses. The Junior high school also sets up a Japanese club to pre-train the interest of the junior high school students in the second foreign language and encourages them to go directly to the high school department after graduation to integrate advanced foreign language courses.
Japanese class 日語課
Knowing Japanese syllabary is the first step in contacting Japanese culture. This course planning is based on syllabary and life conversational teaching by games, songs, animations, Japanese culture introduction and interesting learning methods to make a happy environment for students to learn Japanese and generate interest in learning Japanese and understanding Japanese culture.
Korean class 韓語課
The course is based on introducing the pronunciation of Korean, basic life conversation and Korean culture. Our school has established a sister school with Dongducheon Foreign Language High School in South Korea and advance international exchanges regularly.
French class 法語課
Through various daily situations, students are guided to use basic French sentence patterns for oral conversation and interspersed with basic grammatical sentence concepts, supplemented by games to enhance students' impressions. Teachers arrange music, pictures, videos and other multimedia tools according to the theme to make students feel French culture.
International activities 國際交流活動
ASAP "Asian Student Exchange Program" is an annual big international exchange event is hosted by the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau. It invites dozens of schools in the Asia-Pacific region to participate. It is the most important annual international exchange event in Kaohsiung. In 2017, the ASAP of our Korea team won the Platinum Award for Best Multimedia Presentation (Guzhong & Dongducheon Foreign Language School), and the Japan team won the Best Presentation Platinum Award (Guzhong & Fukui Commercial High School.)
The special math & science classes 數理特色班
Since 2013, special math & science classes are set up and students gifted in math and science are recruited. Through the arrangement of curriculum activities, the development of students’practical ability of math and science are deepened and broadened; students’potential are also motivated through opening relevant math & science camps during summer holidays and winter holidays.
4th grade special class 高一特色課程
應用生物專題(每週1節,1學年課程)
Special Topics in Applied Biology (1 session/week, 1 academic year course)
This course explores the application of modern biological science in human life and industry. Students develop the ability to think critically, communicate arguments, and value judgment through the process of implementation, discussion, and special reports. Expect students to face controversial biological science-related issues (such as genetically engineered food, vaccine risks, public health policies, fertilized egg screening, organ transplantation etc.) in the future and have sufficient ability to develop independent thinking through scientific demonstration steps.
5th grade special class 高二特色課程
Green Energy and Sustainable Development (1 session per week, 1 semester course)
Energy is a popular emerging technology in recent years and it is also a public issue that concerns you and our lives. This course includes topics such as global warming and climate change, solar energy, fuel cells, wind power, high-temperature superconductors, Arduino and green energy, smart grids and etc. It is a interdisciplinary integrated course that combines physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. In addition to the classroom teaching, the two characteristic courses mentioned above also extend the off-campus teaching field, the school also cooperates with the Department of Biotechnology of Kaohsiung Medical University, the Department of Mold and Die Engineering of National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (formerly Gaoying University), National Science and Technology Museum, the Magic School of Green Technologies of National Cheng kung University etc. Institutions, planning out-of-school visits and practical experience activities to cultivate students' practical ability.
